More power to Escrick Business Park as new firm moves in

More power to Escrick Business Park as new firm moves in

July 2013

The UK’s leading high voltage power engineers for rail, private networks and utility companies has expanded its operation in York.

High Voltage Maintenance Services Ltd (HVMS) is the latest growing business to move to Escrick Business Park south of the city, where it has taken both warehousing and office space to accommodate it expansion plans.

The company, which has headquarters in Swanley, Kent and offices in Crawley in Surrey, opened a northern office at Fulford, York in 2011 but has quickly outgrown its accommodation there.  The move to Escrick Business Park allows it to locate its stockholding, technical support and administration operations in close proximity, with room to grow further across the North of England, using York as its northern base.

HVMS already employs 173 people nationwide.  Fifteen of those are currently based at Escrick but it expects team numbers to increase in the next 18 months.

Says Andrew Empson, HMVS’  general manager – north: "Having a base in Yorkshire will enable us to efficiently manage contracts throughout the North of England, including Scotland and provides a solid foundation from which we plan to extend across the North. We look forward to working with both existing and new clients within these areas.

The necessity of this move is an example of the growing success of the company and rapid expansion over the past 12-18 months of the northern team, the move being needed due to a complete lack of room and suitable storage facilities in the previous office. We are very pleased with the company’s exceptional growth and anticipate further expansion.”

Commenting on the new location he says:  “We were looking for high quality space which would reflect our own quality business ethos and we needed somewhere with easy road access across the north.  Escrick with its good links to the motorway network and away from city centre and ring-road congestion is already working very well for us.”

The move programme has been phased over several weeks to avoid any disruption to client services.

HMVS follows in the footsteps of other expanding international businesses which have chosen to locate at Escrick Business Park, since it was completed by York-based S Harrison Developments Ltd.  Sumec, the sustainable energy business recently relocated to Escrick from Clifton Moor in York bringing the total are of warehousing now occupied to 23,000 sq ft, along with 16,000 sq ft of office space sold or let, providing around 150 jobs on site.

Says Phil Hill, of S Harrison: “We’re delighted to welcome HVMS to Escrick.  The Business Park has quickly established itself as a thriving community and we have seen several businesses take additional space on site since moving here.”

Currently, just 8000 sq ft of warehousing remains available, and around 14000 sq ft of office space, in a range of configurations.  Agent for the site is MPC.
