Nursery celebrates fifth birthday at Escrick

Nursery celebrates fifth birthday at Escrick

April 2014

One of the region’s most popular nurseries is celebrating its fifth birthday next week with a Bank Holiday event for friends old and new. There will be a spectacular balloon release and a big high-five from supporters.

Former bank manager Ruth Newton set up Young Discoverers Nursery at Escrick Business Park between Selby and York back in 2009, with just two children enrolled. Since then the thriving business has gone from strength to strength. It currently has a staffing rota totaling 25 and cares for as many as 65 children at the Nursery, and a further 70 at their Before & After School Club every week.

For Kathy Wainwright, nursery manager who has been with Ruth from the very first day, it is the quality of the staff and the support of parents that has been the biggest factor in Young Discoverers’ phenomenal success.

Says Kathy: “We knew from the start that the business model was a good one – you would expect that with a bank manager in charge – and we knew that the location, at Escrick Business Park, was right. That meant we could really focus all our effort on giving the children in our care a brilliant experience. Parents have recognised that and we are now seeing the brothers and sisters of our first customers coming through the doors. For us, that’s the best recommendation you can have.”

The nursery has engaged with the local community, linking with local schools and Hollicarrs Holiday Park as well as S Harrison, who built the business park. The Young Discoverers team now plans to provide a boost for other start-up businesses, offering them a platform at the 5th birthday celebration event.

The birthday party begins at 10am and runs until 2pm on Monday 5th May at Escrick Business Park. Past and current colleagues, children and their families, as well as neighbours and the general public are invited to the free event, to meet those involved in the nursery and to enjoy tombola, craft activities and stalls. There will be face painting and Avon demonstrations by recently launched local businesses – as well as hot and cold refreshments.

The event culminates in the creation of a canvas collage of painted hands by children who have been at the nursery. Then the team will release 100 helium balloons to a rousing chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’. Says Kathy: “We are so proud of what we have achieved here, we are keen to share it with whoever wants to join us. We can guarantee a fun bank holiday event.”
