Move to Escrick marks expansion for successful family-owned motor business

Move to Escrick marks expansion for successful family-owned motor business

December 2014

Thriving car sales and service company DG Dale has acquired two new business units at Escrick Business Park on the A19 as it embarks on its latest growth drive.  With work about to start on a £100,000 fit-out programme, the company will start trading from its new headquarters in January 2015.

The family business, which was founded by Derek and Mary Dale and has been trading in the area since 1959, has seen a 20% growth in both its sales and servicing operations in 2014.

With the financial support of parents Ian and Tricia Dale, Nick and his brother James have acquired the freehold of the two 2500 sq ft units which they are converting into an indoor 20 car showroom and fully equipped service workshops.

Says DG Dale director Nick Dale:

“Our business has progressed from selling mainly Vauxhall cars to offering a wide range or low-mileage marques. We are currently selling well over 300 units a year.  We have literally thousands of service customers and we needed the move to the kind of space which reflects the high standards on which our business has grown over 55 years.

“Escrick Business Park is ideal, modern, stylish space which we can shape to our own needs.  It has great road access too.  The fact that we are buying our premises reflects the fact that we want to be in control of our business and that we are here to stay.”

The move also takes them back closer to their roots; the business traded from Stillingfleet from 1962.  Ian and Tricia took over the reins of the company from Ian’s parents in 1987 and moved to Crockey Hill in 2003.

Only two warehousing units now remain at Escrick Business Park which already houses a range of successful UK and international businesses in the healthcare, renewable energy, construction, rail and technology sectors.  The business park also has an on-site nursery and crèche.

Says S Harrison’s Phil Hill: “As a family business ourselves with a history dating back to the 1950s, we’re delighted to welcome DG Dale to Escrick Business Park.  They will add an extra vibrancy to the thriving business community we have here in both our office and warehousing units.”

Emma Warner, commercial property partner at Langley Solicitors in York acted for S Harrison.  DG Dale were advised by Kelly Buckle Fleming of Coles Solicitors and Penny Eadle of Ware and Kay.  Agents for Escrick Business Park are MPC.  Roger Atkins at Lawrence Hannah and Ian and James Reynolds at Stephensons acted as agents for DG Dale.

“It’s been a fantastic team effort with all parties pulling together to get everything in place and now provides the perfect base from which to embark on our latest expansion drive,” says James Dale.

Emma Warner said: “This is the perfect location for a business such as DG Dale & Son to grow and thrive. There is increasing interest in high-quality warehouse and office units, such as those offered at Escrick Business Park, as businesses gain confidence and roll-out their expansion plans.”
